Boat Ramps

Please be aware this guide is only approximate. If you know of any discrepancies, please let us know.

To confirm that a boat ramp is open or closed, call the Corps of Engineers on 770-945-9531 or 770-945-1467.

Lake Lanier's water level is 1062.85 feet above sea level, which means that it is 8.15 feet below full pool.

When the water level is low, some boat ramps become unusable. We've listed the lowest ramp at each park. Some parks may have higher ramps that are closed while the lowest ramp remains open.

If the boat ramp's elevation is higher than 1062.85, the park is closed for boat launches.

Hi Chris - sure, we'll fix that. See that note at the top:

"Please be aware this guide is only approximate. If you know of any discrepancies, please let us know."

Why does this site still say the East Bank ramp is closed? I just check with the Core and they said its open..

Sorry to hear that Judy. We're going to relaunch on www.lakelanier.com early next year and I'm going to sit down and try to work out a fool-proof way to check every ramp.

I called the Corps phone # noted on thise web page and they said they don't know about the ramps and to call Hall County Parks & Engineering. When I called them they said they don't know why the Corps. keeps telling people this. They're only responsible for Clarks Bridge ramp and it's open. It states it's closed on this website. Government at its best! It's not my job and I don't care attitude.

Hi Scotty

According to all usual measurements, Shoal Creek should be closed. I called Lake Lanier Islands this morning, Nov 13th, and they confirmed it.

I put in at Shoal Creek last week and my trailer wheels went off the edge of the ramp. It might be closed by today; I think the water went down almost a foot since then. Any confirmation on that?

Hi Tom

Thats true, and one of the reasons this is a little tricky to calculate.

Big Creeks' East Ramp is listed as open and 1050.7, when in fact the water level is 1053.52 (less than three feet)

Actually, a ramp closes when the elevation is less that 3 feet above the ramp elevation.

Hi Ryan

We're updating weekly from the Corps site as per Ranger Evans' advice.

Can you point out ramps that are mistaken?

Be careful using this list. It is not accurate.

There are other ramps open that are not on this list.

Thanks Ranger Evans

The reason we set this up was that some people told us they weren't tech-savvy enough to install the right plugins and see the Corps page.

Our best solution might be check this page manually every week against your correct files.

I think the best advice is to just provide the link to the Corps of Engineers Boat Ramp Elevation Calculator. It is accuate and we do not mind if you place the link on your website. We just want the public to get the right info.

Thanks,

Ranger Evans

Thanks Dave - that's what we used to create this chart, together with a script that checks the water level.

BTW, that spreadsheet I referred to above allows you to type in the current elevations and colors the ramps red, yellow and green (closed, closing soon and open).

It can be found here:
http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/brochures/BoatRampElevations.xls

It also shows Shoal Creek open until 1053.1

Thanks Dave - I've edited the chart to reflect the Charleston changes.

Thanks Al - I've added your three changes too.

I also believe Charleston Park ramps have been extended, per the Corp spreadsheet, they go down to the following levels (they will close 3 feet above those levels):

CHARLESTON LEFT1050.7
CHARLESTON MIDDLE 1046.2
CHARLESTON RIGHT 1045.8

Some more update to get you info correct.

Van Pugh North ramp is still open. 1051.3 so will close at 1054.3

East Bank ramp still open 1051.0 so closes at 1054.0

and

Old Federal Day Use ramp 1051.5 and closes at 1054.5

These ramps were all extended this past winter.

Thanks Al

I've changed the chart to reflect that. It should update shortly to reflect the closed ramps better.

The ramps are closed when the depth at the end of the concrete ramps is less than 3 feet. That is why it may appear to be enough water, but it is to prevent damage to boats and trailers.

Little River, Vann's Tavern, Sardis Creek, Chestnut Ridge, Keith's Bridge, and Thompson Bridge are closed.

Lanier Park is also closed for those who asked.

I notice the Lanier Park ramp is not on the list. Is it known by another name?

one ramp @Old Federal is open

Thanks Jeff - a map should be pretty easy to do.

We also need to get moving on the user feedback. The Corps closed Little River Park over the weekend even though the ramp still has a couple of feet left.

Just to update this list before anyone takes it to heart. Vanns Tavern is closed, but East Bank is open.

It would also be really cool to have a map of the lake that shows all the boat ramps. I am sure there is a map on the web somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks Tony

We're working on a way to make this more accurate.

I think the next step might be to add some user feedback so people can leave a note about whether each park is open or closed.

Nice site, good info. However I suggest that you include Gainesville Marina. Also include a note that the Corps DOES close ramps that otherwise have sufficient water. IE Thompson Bridge Park ramps have been closed for a couple weeks. But the water level is above the ramp depth.
