Lake Lanier Islands Looking to Expand to Local Parks

Big Creek Park

Lake Lanier Islands is looking to take over the running of three local parks in the Flowery Branch area. All three are within a very close drive of the Islands:

Shoal Creek Park, currently just a boat ramp
Big Creek Park, also just a boat ramp
Chestnut Ridge Park, closed by the Corps in 2006 because of budget problems.

The Islands' plans for the parks are as follows:

Shoal Creek Park: build a major camping area with a new amenity center, swimming pool and store. One plan forsees a bridge from the park to the Islands.
Big Creek Park: expand the boat ramp for use when water levels are low and construct 14 new picnic sites.
Chestnut Ridge Park: reopen the park and use it for RV and tent camping.
