There's a baby alligator still on the loose in Lake Lanier.
It was last seen under an old, unused dock on Flat Creek. The area is close to Old Federal Park and Sunrise Cove Marina.
The alligator probably only weighs about 10 pounds and the jaw would only open about 2 1/2 inches ... much too small to hurt anyone.
The Department of Natural Resourses are more concerned about the alligator itself which is a type indigenous to Florida or the southern part of the state and might suffer if not caught before winter. They're trying the catch the alligator with a live tap using chicken for bait. Because its so far from home, the DNR suspect someone let the alligator free on purpose.
Dear London, We're optimistic we'll catch the gator in the next week or two, so feel free to swim without worry. I'm sure the gator has never heard of BBCA and would probably have a better shot at one of the many drunken white boaters who frequesnt the lake. For that matter, I've never heard of the BBCA. Which reminds me of the shortest book I ever read, "Black Yachting Stories". Happy Boating-
