LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 14 FEET, AND LAKE IS STAINED AND THE CREEKS AND THE RIVERS ARE MUDDY & 55 DEGREES. There are still humps, trees and long points exposed lake wide. Be very careful running the lake. See our site for the Lake Lanier Ramp calculator. Largemouth bass fishing has been fair and the bass are pushing to points, around docks and shallow wood. Even the stained to muddy waters up lake are still worth fishing. Start the day with slow moving lures and works, jigs and trick worms are the best baits. The early bite starts on anything in the water in the shallows. Wood, rocks, and docks have fish all around them and casting shallow is the best bet. Use the dark colors of Zoom’s trick worm. Skip or cast the bait past the cover and pull the lure and let it drop right into the cover. Depths can vary from 5 to 10 feet and spinner baits in the 3/8 ounce size with silver and gold blades in either the willow leaf or Colorado combinations has been working. Slow roll these baits on and over points and any wood all day. The chrome and blue combination 1/2 ounce Rat L Traps has been good for bass in the same locations. Use the dark smoke red and green worms in the Zoom u tail style on a light Texas rig. The Texas rigged worm and a 3/16 ounce weight cast on and around the bank cover and around docks in the creeks will get strikes. With the water temperatures warming, presentations can be faster. Work the small creeks off the man river and use a Zoom pumpkinseed lizard on a Texas rig. The suspending Rouge in almost any color has been catching shallow bass on and around any cover in the creeks. Docks and wood are key areas. A Culprit red shad worm on a Texas rig placed right on the banks and in the backs of the pockets will find some shallow bass. The back of the lower lakes creek on the northwest side of the lake is best. These areas are best as a starting area for morning as the sun hits this creek first. Spotted bass are biting and the fish are relating to rocks, points and even shallow coves. Use all the baits including the worms, jerk baits and crank baits. There are lots of fish on points and around all the lakes docks. These fish are in the man made and the natural cover and they will bite live or artificial lures. Presentations early should be slow and work the baits all the way back to the boat. Work small worms on any of the main lake rocky points on a light Texas rig. Use the finesse style green worms on a Texas rig. Some locations to work on early and late each day will be the main lake reef markers. Small to medium chrome and blue top water lures can draw the spots but the key is to move around and make only a few casts to each location. Use the small Pointer Minnows in shad or blue colors and work any sand point half way in the creek. Also use a #9 Rapala in silver and black back after mid day in the back of any creeks. Small watermelon green and natural blue Zoom finesse worms are very good lures for the spots. All white 3/8 ounce Rooster Tails on light line will get the strikes from spotted bass on the main lake points. Spots will spawn on main lake humps and these fish are usually larger. The humps and reef markers lake wide are getting ready to break loose. Small baby bass and all white crank baits and all white spinner baits are good lures for these fish. Work this bait deeper for the better fish. Doodling finesse worms will draw strikes and use a small jig head and a night crawler for lots of bites. Striper fishing is good and head to the backs of the lower lake creek and get real shallow. Fishing has been fair even with the crazy weather this week. Use some herring, shiners and gizzard shad. Do not worry about the mud. The bait is there and the fish are feeding. Fish free lines and use planer boards and keep the baits close to the banks. The live bait has been producing the majority of the bigger fish on the lake this past week. Cast Super Flukes in white pearl and white pearl/chartreuse combination and buck tails while free lining your baits. Hit the points and shallow flats for your best bet. Try some trolling with white buck tails and chartreuse trailers and watch for the schools of bait and stripers. These fish are ranging at depths from 10 to 30 feet and use live bait shiners on a float rig. Shiners and jumbo minnows are best and be quiet in these areas while fishing. Live baits on down lines will work. Night fishing this week slowed with the full moon and the unsteady weather must be the reason. Crappie fishing is good. Depths vary all day but 4 feet is a great place to start. Just go to the back of any major creek, pick ten docks and you will find a school of fish. The back of Six Mile is excellent. You can smell the fish bedding lake wide and all the major creeks with any wood in the water will produce.
