History of Lake Lanier Water Levels

Water levels in Lake Lanier have fluctuated widely during the lake's history. The historic highs and lows are nearly 25 feet apart. The Corps of Engineers currently sets full pool at 1,071 feet above sea level but the lake rarely reaches that level and the Corps often drains water from the lake when that level is reached. High lake levels can cause problems with flooding further down the Chatahoochee River.

Highest Level: 1077.2 feet in April, 1964

Lowest Level: 1052.7 feet in December 1981
