Corps of Engineers Enters Alice in Wonderland

Lake Lanier Corps of Engineers Lake Lanier's Corps of Engineers have their heads in the sand, and they may soon have their day in court too. The Corps has decided that the solution to Lake Lanier's crisis to increase the flow out of the lake.

Sonny Perdue's response was to threaten to sue the Corps.

Lake Lanier had been on course to empty by January. Now we may be fishing on a dry lake bed much sooner than that.

According to the Corps, the other federal reservoirs on the Chattahoochee River are nearly depleted and can't provide additional water to Florida for a small coal-fired power plant and two federally protected species of freshwater mussels.

Currently, the Corps is sending about 37,400 gallons of water per second to Florida. That's the equivalent of an Olympic-sized swimming pool of water every 20 seconds released down the Chattahoochee to Florida's Apalachicola River.

Florida has a $3 million mussel industry. Georgia has a $5 billion Lake Lanier industry.

Tell me one thing the Federal Government is efficient at. And, no, the Corps does not have it's collective heads in the sand, but, instead, where the sun never shines!
