Lake Lanier Could Fall Five More Feet by October

Lake Lanier Boat Ramps ClosedLake Lanier is already lower than it has been for several years and the Access North Georgia is reporting that Lake Lanier’s Corps of Engineers project manager Jonathan Davis expects the lake to fall five more feet in the next month:

"A month from now, by the middle of October, if we stay with the inflows I read during this meeting, we could be down another five feet. We could be down to 1055 [feet about sea level], the lake has been below 1052, I think that's the historic low."

Lake water levels at this time of year are normally around 1067. If Lake Lanier really does fall that far, we'd be left with only nine parks with open boat ramps. Around forty parks would be forced to close their ramps. Click here to keep up-to-date on which boat ramps are open.

Looking for Temporary Boat Slip on Lake Lanier

I have my pontoon at Starboard Marina on Lake Lanier. Apparently, the Corps of Engineers is taking about 8 ft. from the lake in the next 2 weeks. I am looking for a slip on the lake somewhere (preferably close) that I can temporarily rent. If you have a slip at a house or marina, that you would be willing to rent for a bit, please call me at 404-610-2244. I have already paid a year here at the marina, so I am not looking for something very high in price. Just want to keep my boat from sitting on the mud. Please call or email me @ This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ASAP.

Thanks!

Why are we still letting water out of Lanier for 4 to 5 hours per day? The amount of water being let out should be only equal to the amount comming into the lake. While our Georgia lakes levels are dropping, the Florida lakes downstream are still near or at their full pool. We are artificially keeping the Chatahoochee River levels. Drive up past Lula, Georgia and take a look at the Hooch.
