Bethel Park Controversy Reopened |
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sent out a press release today announcing an environmental impact assessment will be conducted at Bethel Park, the scene of much controversy over the park's developement.
According to the release, development proposals have been submitted by the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta and Forsyth County. The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta has an $18 million plan which includes cabins, a dining hall, chapel, marina, baseball complex, three amphitheaters, ropes course, pavilions, storage buildings, two beach areas and a paved parking lot for 156 cars. The Corps says that 25 acres of the land would remain undeveloped. Click here to read the release. Forsyth County is developing a plan for the park which would allow the 22,000 visitors who come every year to continue using the park. Plans may also include a new campground. A group called SaveBethelPark.com has sprung up to support this option. Comments (2)
![]() written by A Friend of Bethel , January 30, 2008 I completely agree that Bethel Park must remain a public and open park. I believe it completely wrong that the YMCA is attempting to close this park for their own benefit. written by friend of high harbour , February 22, 2008 bethal park would not be closed to the public. In the off season the public and that was never said this isnt going to be a YMCA facilty that you have to have a membership to use It would be a camp high harbour in the summer and If you havent looked at the high haubor web site maybe you should there are some and the pictures and videos that you should watch and see what its all about because it really is a life saving experince that some never get because theres no room at the other camps Write comment
