War Hill Park

Warhill Park is a large park and campground on the north end of Lake Lanier, off Ga. 318 . War Hill has a large number of primitive campgrounds ($16 per night). For day visitors it has beaches, boat ramps and numerous picnic tables and grills alongside the lake. Recently plans have been put forward to turn the park into a public marina. Locals don't agree and you'll see many "Save War Hill Park" signs in nearby front yards. Their website savewarhillpark.com has much more information about the proposed plan.
The park is currently run jointly by Dawson County and the Corps of Engineers. The county does general maintenance and collects the $16-a-night fees for camping at the 14 sites. The corps handles the heavy lifting, such as renovating bathrooms.
