Go Fish Cancelled But Facilities Still Coming

Go Fish GeorgiaSonny Perdue has $19 million dollars to spend on wonderful new fishing facilities in order to attract lucrative fishing tournaments to North Georgia. Unfortunately the poor state of Lake Lanier means that the first fishing tournaments have been canceled.

It was announced in July that the Go Fish Georgia Professional Anglers Association Championship, with $1 million in prize money, would be held in early 2008. A pro-am, pairing professionals with local anglers, was also planned for next month.

Go Fish Georgia have decided that Lake Lanier is too dangerous. They will consider holding the tournament later in 2008 or in subsequent years if the lake approaches full pool again.

Most of the $19 million will help build a fishing-focused visitors' center somewhere in Georgia, mega-boat ramps around the state and a new hatchery.

Well at least they are trying to do something to save the lake. These people care about their drinking water and recreation on the lake. It is their lives. And you idiots sit back and poke fun. Shame on you jerks

True, but ... if you've been reading the papers you'll have seen that the Georgia government has been woefully underprepared for this crisis. They have had time to plan and fund multi-million dollar fishing tournaments, but not a single state plan existed to deal with a water shortage.
