Lake Lanier Striped Bass Fishing

Lake Lanier is famous for its black bass and indeed is the best location is North Georgia. The lake holds many regional records.

The Corps of Engineers, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources actively stocks the lake every year with fingerlings.

The two main species are:

  • Striped bass. The lake record is 46 pounds. These were introduced over thirty years ago and are of the Atlanta variety. They are a challenging fishing experience, famous for breaking tackles and having plenty of strength and stamina.
  • Largemouth bass (sometimes over 15 pounds)

Its also possible to see spotted bass (sometimes over 7 pounds).

The fish on Lake Lanier often stick close to the shore and many fishers are known to drop Christmas trees and other vegetation into the water to provide a better breeding ground.
