Nighttime Fishing Banned on Lanier

Fishing on Lake LanierThe Corps of Engineers has stopped issuing permits for nighttime fishing because of the low lake levels. The explanation?

"That’s just to try to help keep boaters safe. Because at nighttime it’s much more difficult for you to see rocks and stumps and shoals that may be just underneath the water’s surface."

Fishermen dispute this, saying that those going out at night are the most experienced boaters who are unlikely to get into trouble.

Individuals still can boat and fish at night but no tournaments can be held.

AS A SEMI PRO BASS FISHMAN AND PART TIME GUIDE I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS LAKE IS NO LONGER SUITABLE -I SIMLY CAN NOT SEE WHY THEY KEEP DRAWING DOWN THE LAKE --ITS CRAZY SEEING THE TREES AND STUMPS --ONE SHOULD NO LONGER DISPUTE WHAT LIES UNDERNEATH THE WATER LINES -TRY RUNNING UP THE LAKE AND NOT PAYING ATTENTION-YOU WILL FIND OUT THE HARD WAY THIS LAKE IS NO LONGER A PLACE FOR RECREATION.

Thanks Al

We should have made that clearer - just the last line says its tournaments only.

The truth is that the corps is not issuing special event permits for night time tournaments. The general public may still use the lake at night.
